The Maguindanao massacre in the Philippines was about power and politics. Did justice prevail? Episode sixty seven.
In this episode, we explore the tragic events of the Maguindanao massacre, one of the deadliest attacks against journalists in history, rooted in a brutal political rivalry. The massacre resulted in the deaths of 58 people, including 32 journalists, who were on their way to witness the filing of candidacy for a gubernatorial candidate in an area fraught with political tension. The perpetrators, allegedly part of a powerful political clan, wanted to send a message to their rivals.
We question whether justice was served in this horrific case. Have the masterminds of this massacre truly faced the consequences of their actions, or does power still offer protection in the political landscape of the Philippines?
