MURDERED: Martha Moxley | Greenwich, CT 1975
Show Notes
Greenwich, 1975. Martha Moxley's murder unraveled beneath the mischief of night, featuring interrogation and court recordings.
Martha Moxley was a vibrant 15-year-old, known for her lively spirit and kindness. Her life was tragically cut short on the night before Halloween, a time of playful pranks in her Greenwich neighborhood. The night that was meant for harmless mischief turned deadly, leaving a community in shock and igniting a decades-long pursuit of justice.
On October 30, 1975, in the affluent enclave of Greenwich, Connecticut, Martha was brutally murdered. Her body was discovered in her family’s backyard, a grisly scene that suggested a fit of rage. Initial investigations were marred by privilege and evasions, clouding the quest for truth.
The investigation faced numerous challenges, including withheld evidence and societal pressures. It wasn’t until years later that advances in forensic techniques and renewed interest reopened the case, leading to the arrest and conviction of Michael Skakel, scion of the powerful Kennedy clan.
Skakel’s trial was a media frenzy, emblematic of justice delayed but not denied. In 2002, nearly three decades after Martha’s death, he was convicted of murder. The verdict, however, would be overturned years later amidst legal wranglings, leaving Martha's case in a state of unresolved heartache.
This episode features interrogation footage and court recordings, capturing the tension and complexity of the trial. Listener discretion advised.
